Hanson Custom Builders was founded in 2006 by Wyatt Hanson, a native San Diegan, as a company focusing on creating handcrafted custom cabinetry, architectural millwork, and custom furniture. After 17 years of serving the great people of San Diego, California we relocated to beautiful Lake Ann, Michigan and now serve the greater Traverse City area. Founded on core values of integrity, honesty, and a strong work ethic, we put the same care into the products we create for your home as the ones we create for ours. Hanson Custom Builders custom crafts cabinetry and other fine pieces for every room of the house, including furniture and decorative treatments. We can prototype and manufacture wood products to your specifications. If you can conceive it, we can create it.

Why Custom Cabinetry?

Stock cabinets are mass-produced in standard sizes, making them the most affordale and least customizable option. There are a limited variety of styles available with several door styles and a few color choices within each style. Standard cabinet widths come in three inch increments from nine to forty-eight inches. Filler strips are used between cabinets to make up for width disparities creating cabinets that are not symmetrically balanced and have wasted space. Accessory options are limited. In most cases they are finished by machine, which can result in missing stain, light stain patterns, or light hallow patterns where the frame meets the center panel, most noticeable on darker doors. Because of this, it is important to inspect each door before purchase. Stock cabinets have the advantage of immediate off-the-shelf availability, and they satisfy basic home-improvement requirements. But they also come with a lot of compromises.
